Itinerary:

DAY 1

Your Eatinerants journey starts with a welcome aperitivo, where all participants and guides will meet in Bologna for a debrief of the trip plan, and you’ll collect your Eatinerants Kit! We waste no time in diving into tastedom: as we move into the magic world of Mortadella inside Fico Park, to learn everything about the ‘Pink Queen’ from expert “insaccatori”. We’ll see how Mortadella is made, and more importantly how it tastes. The bravest Eatinerants will literally produce a mortadella with their own hands and the greediest, like us, will just eat!

We are later going to walk the “fat and red city” of Bologna, affectionately called such due to the great food, left political affiliation and the red bricks used on buildings. We will stroll through its incredible porticoes, including the portico of San Luca: from where you can have the best view of the city. The evening will be complimented by a trip to the best restaurant in the city, so Eatinerants can experience how tagliatelle and lasagne should taste. The fraternity will stay in a beautiful, cosy hotel downtown.

DAY 2

Today we move to the Parma province, the Langhirano area, where one of the most iconic Italian delicacies is made: Prosciutto di Parma. We’ll visit one of its historic producers, to see how its made, and the end of the tour will be surprising… just watch this space…
We will wonder to downtown Parma, and see its incredible 12th century Baptistery, where Italian opera was born thanks to Italian Maestro Giuseppe Verdi. We then move to the medieval ages, and visit the Castle of Torrechiara! For the ‘not so young’: the castle was the set of the movie Lady Hawk.

After a long day we will relax in the beautiful vineyard of Agriturismo of La Madonnina. A pasta masterclass will be our next foodie challenge, where we will discover the different types of Emilian fresh pasta and recreate it. Of course we will eat our creations…(if edible!) and the Agriturismo products and wines!

DAY 3

This is one of the gems of Mamma Emilia, and so we start early! We will move to one caseificio (cheese house) where Emilians produce parmesan, the King of Cheeses, 365 days a year – no exceptions. We will see the whole process: from the milk from local, cherished cows, into wheels of cheesy delight. The experience will be finished by tasting the different types of Parmigiano in traditional, hundreds-of-years-old stores.

After, we will visit the splendid downtown of Modena, an Unesco heritage site. Not only will we visit its unique Cathedral, alleyways and famed food market, but we’ll encounter Modena’s people, who are among the most industrious people in the world: the creators of iconic brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and…Panini (no, not the sandwich).

You cannot visit Modena without a balsamic vinegar epiphany… The oldest of Modena’s “acetaias” will welcome us into their beautiful house to show us how this black-gold delicacy originated… and the tasting experience at the end will mesmerize your buds.

After a busy day we will retreat into a beautiful agriturismo for an evening of relaxation and a delicious Emilian dinner.

DAY 4

For the final leg of the tour, we will be visiting the magnificent estate of Venturini Baldini: with its beautiful lakes, forests and vineyards. The special guest of the day is the Lambrusco – a wine that is being rediscovered, refined and will certainly be the next beverage sensation…watch this space. We will enjoy Lambrusco with a brunch on the terrace of a beautiful 16th century mansion that hosts a breath-taking view of the Emilian plateau.

We’ll say arrivederci to Mamma Emilia’s pilgrims, who will head back to Bologna. We are confident they’ll be leaving us enlightened, full of good food, and great memories… and await their return for the next trip on their quest to taste.
